Our History
Serving the Omaha Region since 1960
In 1960, Sister Mary Evangeline Randolph, RSM was teaching three students at St. James Orphanage whose disabilities prevented them from enrolling in the local public schools. Responding to this need, she founded Madonna, one of the first schools in Nebraska to educate children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing a place where they could learn, grow and belong. Leveraging her compassionate heart, creative spirit, special education expertise, and belief that all students should be fully included in the life of schools, workplaces and the local community, Sr. Evangeline quickly grew Madonna into one of Omaha's brightest gems. Always undaunted, she paved the way for public schools to place students with disabilities in private schools, and she provided countless students and families with the learning home they yearned for. Inspired by Sr. Evangeline's example and life's work, today, Madonna provides inclusive PK-12 Education, Transition, Adult Services and highly effective job training programs like Madonna's Project SEARCH!
Sister Evangeline's StoryGod chose me to help. If He asked me, 'Do you love me?' I would burst with joy, because I have served Him and I have seen Him in every little child.
